The History of Essiac Tea

Essiac Tea got its name from a canadian nurse named Rene Caisse ('Essiac' is Nurse Caisse's last name spelled backwards). In the 1920's Rene met a woman who had defeated breast cancer. The woman told her the story of how she had met an Ojibwa/Iroquois medicine man who told her he could cure the disease. He showed the woman a group of herbs that grew locally, and told her to make a tea from them. The woman's cancer disappeared and never returned.

Most of the credit for Essiac Tea was given to Renee Caisse, when in truth, this blend of wild herbs had been used for centuries by Native Americans.

Rene Caisse was responsible for bringing the herbal blend to the public's attention. She gave the herbal tea to many of her patients with great success - and asked for nothing in return.
